誠実とはなんだろうか？

誠実って、約束を守ることじゃないのかな。
だとしたら、誠実とは力ではないのかな。約束を守るための。

偽りがなく、まじめなこと。真心が感じられるさま。

　字義的にはそうだし、普通はそうでしょ。
　で、問題は、その感受者の側の在り方。
　つまり、日本文化風土では（ほかのアジア的な風土もそうかもしれないが）、これは対人関係における感受の問題に還元される。
　つまり、「おまえ、俺に嘘付いてないよな？　隠し事ないよな？」ということ。
　あと、ネットで面白いのだけど、「あいつの本心は違うだろう？」みたいにして本心が問い掛けられる。自発的な言葉は信じられない。自ら発する言葉が無効化されると恐ろしいことでもあるが、そのあたりの感性は日本人にはない。逆に問い掛ける人が本心だと想定されることを自白した言葉が正しいことになる。日本人における本心とは、「言葉の踏み絵」としての言葉の表出になる。
　ここでは、知らせないことの誠実みたいな概念はないか、別のドラマになる。

　ざっと見た感じでは、熱意や、真理との関係性の在り方として問われている。基本的に真理へのコミットメントのクオリティのようだ。

　こちらむしろ日本語の「誠実」に近いように思える。ただ、本心の自白教養的な部分はなくやはり真理の様相に置かれているようではある。
　ちょっと誇張した言い方をすると、西洋的には、誠実とは他者との馴れ合いを否定した真理の関係に対人関係を置き直そうとする情熱。
