UNITED NATIONS (AFP) — The United States is gravely concerned by reports of intensive air bombardment by Sudanese government forces on a flashpoint Darfur town which has been evacuated by rebels, its ambassador to the UN said Tuesday.

UN officials reported that 28 bombs were dropped early Tuesday on Muhajiriya despite the fact that rebels of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) had pulled back some 50 to 60 kilometers (30 to 36 miles) from the town, she said.
