VOA Marines Begin Withdrawal from Fallujah

Reports from Iraq say U.S. Marines have begun pulling back from positions around the city of Fallujah, which has been under siege for the past three weeks.
Witnesses say American troops left many frontline positions in the southern part of the city, Friday.
The withdrawal followed negotiations between U.S. military authorities and generals from the former Iraqi army, but Pentagon officials have yet to confirm that any deal was reached.
Earlier reports quoted a U.S. Marine spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Brennan Byrne, as saying that an Iraqi protection force of about 1100 troops would enter the city to take control of security.
