140 : Lesson

Only salvation can be said to cure.

Atonement does not heal the sick, for that is not a cure. It takes away the guilt that makes the sickness possible. And that is cure indeed. For sickness now is gone, with nothing left to which it can return.
贖罪は病人を治療しません。贖罪は治療ではありません。贖罪は病気を可能にしている罪責感覚を除去します。この除去が真の治療です。かくして病気はもはやここにありません。罪責感がしがみつくものは何も残されていません。

　意訳。Acimは病気の陰に隠れる罪責感を除去しようとする。それによって、身体的な病気が身体のレベルで癒されるかというと、その点についてはそれほど明言していない（寿命を全うして終わるという程度）。というか、身体についてAcimは関心を持っていない。身体が自分であると思い、その病気によって孤立していると感じる感性のほうに関心を向けている。

So do we lay aside our amulets, our charms and medicines, our chants and bits of magic in whatever form they take. We will be still and listen for the Voice of healing, which will cure all ills as one, restoring saneness to the Son of God. No voice but this can cure. Today we hear a single Voice which speaks to us of truth, where all illusions end, and peace returns to the eternal, quiet home of God.
だから私たちは、縁起物、お守り、薬、祈りといった各種の形態の魔術を脇によけます。私たちは静かに癒しの声を聞くようにします。その声が神の子たる正気を回復させて、一斉にすべての病を癒すでしょう。治療ができるのはこの声だけのです。私たちは今日真理が私たちに語りかける一つだけの声を聞きます。そこで幻想はすべて終わり、静謐なる神の家としての永遠に平和が訪れます。

　Acimは偶像を敵視しないが無視はする。そのため、一見呪術的に見えながらもっとも合理的な理性を打ち立てようとする。
